If you want the best gaming PC then I highly recommend building one yourself because you can put whatever you want in it and not have to pay for the "name brand" or extra stuff that you don't really want. My fiance built his with his best friend and it's the finest running desktop around (runs brand new games with no trouble whatsoever). He put extra RAM in it, a ton of harddrive space, and the basic operating system and added whatever components he liked.

Building one yourself may seem like a daunting task, but if you have someone that is knowledgeable, it's fairly easy...plus they can give you tips/advice as to the best stuff on the market.
Not only that, but building your own machine is going to be cheaper than buying one outright.
Not exactly sure why...other than a lot of people don't have the know-how/patience to build one themselves.

Something that's really fast but not too expensive gaming pc will have to be built by you, if you go with a pre-built it will be expensive, you can learn how to build a pc by just typing how to build a pc into the search box at youtube.com and you won't even have to read much, there is a guy that shows you what hard ware works good http://www.youtube.com/user/PCWizKid + he has his site that shows you how to do everything and what to use http://pcwizkidstechtalk.com/index.php/g…

    This maybe good:
Alienware Aurora Gaming Desktop Computer (Intel Core i7 920, 640GB HDD, 3GB)

Specs: Intel Core i7 920 (2.66 GHz), 3 GB DDR3 SDRAM, 640 GB, Single 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit

    And this is coming out:
    Alienware Area-51 (Intel Core i7 920, 750GB HDD, 6GB)

Specs: Intel Core i7 920 (2.66 GHz), 6 GB DDR3 SDRAM, 750 GB, Single 1.8GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit

Without your budget this is hard to say. But my advice to potential computer gamers is nitpick at your price. Go into a store with a specific price in mind. Then within $100 dollars of that price compare specs. For store bought gaming I recommend the Processor first as that is the hardest to upgrade. You need to be concerned with socket types and that can be difficult sometimes to find with proprietary MBs. I recommend an i7 if going Intel based or any high end AMD if green computing is a concern. Unless going green I recommend Intel as it is by far the best gaming bang for the buck.

On the i7 front I recommend the 800 series as that is excellent price/performance. After Processor I recommend Graphics cards if you want great gaming from the getgo but that is a personal choice. Since all modern PC's come with Win7 RAM is less of a concern but 4GB is bare minimum. The more the merrier. With a 64bit OS there is no overkill. 32bit tops off at 8GB or 16GB depending on MB RAM slots.

I recommend if possible a GTX260 Max Core minimum graphics card wise to run modern and future games.

On an aside note I highly recommend you build a PC yourself if you can. I don't know if you have a Fry's near you or if you trust newegg enough to order parts online. But price/performance is usually 15% better when built oneself.
